The Law
Legislation requires that ELV's are fully de-polluted before they are disposed of and that this must take place within an Authorised Treatment Facility. Shewalton Car Spares are fully committed to environmental issues and are licensed by The Scottish Environmental Protection Agency

All ELV?s coming in to our premises are expertly de-polluted using our dedicated vehicle drainage system which removes fuel, engine oil, gearbox oil, brake fluids, clutch fluids, coolants and windscreen wash. In addition to fluids, all batteries, air bags and tyres are also removed, oil filters are removed and crushed, and CFC?s removed from air conditioning units. This completes the de-pollution process, but we then extricate the engines and gear boxes from the vehicles as well as any resalable spare parts, before the vehicle is stored ready to be crushed, baled and sent to the fragmentiser for recycling.

Your responsibility and what the law says

Anyone wishing to dispose of a vehicle is legally obliged to ensure that it is taken to an Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF) for de-pollution and recycling.

The ATF will then notify the DVLA that the vehicle and has been scrapped.

These are the legal steps which should be taken when you decide to dispose of any vehicle. Unless you ensure that you follow these steps and use an accredited Authorised Treatment Facility you may risk future taxation fines.
